Recently there is outbreak of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in certain regions, including neighbouring countries and China. While this virus has not yet reached pandemic levels like the 2009 Swine Flu or COVID-19, its
recent spread is concerning, particularly for specific vulnerable groups.
Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is usually causes symptoms similar to common cold. Children might cough or wheeze, have a runny nose or a sore throat. Most cases are mild, but young children, adults over 65 and people with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk for serious illness.
Preventative measures for HMPV
- Practice frequent handwashing with soap and water or use hand sanitiser.
- Avoid touching your face, especially your eyes, nose, and mouth, without washing your hands.
- Use tissues when sneezing or coughing, and dispose of them properly.
- Stay hydrated and maintain a balanced diet to boost immunity.
- Limit close contact with people showing symptoms such as fever, cough, or breathing difficulties.
- If you or your child develop symptoms like persistent fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, consult a doctor immediately and avoid attending school until fully recovered.
